We can help!
WEST KIRBY AIKIDO CLUB
offers both Tai Chi Health Exercises - 7.30pm to 8.30pm
and Aikido instruction - 8.30pm to 9.30pm
on Friday evenings at West Kirby Concourse
Both the Exercises and the Aikido use gentle body movements that require neither strength nor stamina and are genuinely suitable for men and women of all ages. Both improve balance, posture, breathing and relaxation (mental and physical), as well as yielding other subtle health benefits.
The Health Exercises (qiqong) are derived from the same sources as Tai Chi. They are beneficial no matter what your age, but if you are over 60, regular exercise is more important to you than ever before and these are highly recommended.
Aikido is a Japanese martial art developed by Morehei Ueshiba in the early 1900s in a search for a truly ethical martial art. Using the principle of non-resistance it is essentially non-violent but it is very effective and can be used by anyone - men and women, old and young, weak and strong. Indeed, the soft contact it uses makes it particularly suitable for women and we have frequently found it to be of great interest to those who ‘used to do’ martial arts. A further part of its attraction is that it is both rigorously logical and deeply intuitive and thus engages both the mind and the body at many levels.
Started in 1972, we were originally the Birkenhead Aikido Club. We changed our name when we moved to the West Kirby Concourse in January 1984.
